The Australian Motorcycles

The Australian motorcycle has an image problem. While there were a few genuine all-Australian-built bikes, most used imported motors in conventional frames assembled from imported lugs. Examples of survivors can be seen in the Australian bike photo gallery, as well as on the pages for my Blue Bird, Bullock, De Luxe, Lewis, Peerless and Victor Blackburne motorcycles. I've also put up pages for Pasco, Hercules, Invincible JAP and the spring-framed Whiting and Mostyn motorcycles.

Pasco

Luckily, someone has gone to the trouble of writing a definitive book on Australian motorcycles. Robert Saward's "A-Z of Australian-made Motorcycles" (Turton and Armstrong, Sydney 1996, ISBN 0 908031 64 5) details some 396 brands of motorcycles offered for sale to the public, plus a good many more built for racing. An awesome achievement. A good place to get a copy is R&D Motorbooks.

When racing was a way to live

You could be forgiven for thinking that motor racing began in 1950. Most books and even online resources begin their coverage with this season and specifically with the British GP on 13 May, the first round of the newly inaugurated World Championship.
Formula 1 itself was entering its fourth season, having began as Formula A after WWII. Races were open to 4.5-litre normally aspirated cars or 1.5-litre supercharged. OldRacingCars.com will cover these earlier seasons as we expand our coverage but have started - just as you'd expect us to - with 1950.

Nbr 038's Story - the Norton Café Motorcycle

The Café started out as a thought as most customs do. The idea was to build something that would have the look of a classic Cafe' but with modern touches so the bike wouldn't feel dated. Custom bike builders are pushing the limits out there today but I believe that the stripped down British bikes built in the 50' and 60' truly are timeless and the look is hard to beat.

M2R

there is a motorcycle museum in Andorra , who contain a hundred of motorcyles from 1900 to 1990. I was very impressed by some old and rare models like the "Le réve" or a steam "La Française Diamant" from 1900 who might be a Jules Verne invention. Some classic french from the thirties like a massive Motobecane "Superculasse", a Peugeot P515, and a Motoconfort"grand sport" . In the curiosity corner, a Ner-a-Car, a Majestic, and the famous danish "Bömerland"

Torque on the BSA is very impressive, and i felt in confidence with the bike . I just had forgotten that trial was a so physical sport. My last session was in 1979...
