Goodbye Monsieur Newman

Screen Legend Paul Newman Dies at Age 83

In a business where public scandal and bad-boy behavior are the rule rather than the exception, Paul Newman is as much a hero offscreen as on. A blue-eyed matinee idol whose career has successfully spanned five decades, he is also a prominent social activist, a major proponent of actors' creative rights and a noted philanthropist.

Born January 26, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio, Newman served in World War II prior to attending Kenyon College on an athletic scholarship; when an injury ended his sports career, he turned to drama, joining a summer stock company in Wisconsin. After relocating to Illinois in 1947, he married actress Jacqueline Witte, and following the death of his father took over the family's sporting-goods store. Newman quickly grew restless, however, and after selling his interest in the store to his brother, he enrolled at the Yale School of Drama. During a break from classes he travelled to New York City where he won a role in the CBS television series The Aldrich Family.

Paul Newman became interested in auto racing while training for a film about the motor sport. Here he is before the start of the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1979. He and his two co-drivers finished second in their Turbo Porsche.

Jay LENO ... Yeah

Jay Leno this guy is RAD,RAD,RAD ...
How can we have miss him in The last Legend of the Motorcycle ...gosh.

James Douglas Muir "Jay" Leno (born April 28, 1950) is an Emmy Award-winning American stand-up comedian and television host, who succeeded Johnny Carson as host of The Tonight Show in 1992. Leno will continue to host The Tonight Show until May 29, 2009.

Leno was born in New Rochelle, New York on April 28, 1950 . His mother, Catherine (née Muir), a filmaker, was born in Greenock, Scotland, and came to the United States at age thirty one. Her schooling was limited and as a result she prized her children's success. His father, Angelo Leno, who worked in the show business, was born in New York to immigrants from Flumeri, Italy. Leno grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, and though his high school guidance counselor recommended he drop out of high school he not only graduated but went on to receive a bachelor's degree in speech therapy from Emerson College, in 1987. He also attended Bentley College in Waltham, MA, but did not like it. Leno's siblings include his late brother Patrick, who was a veteran.

As he was growing up he used to say that he would take over Johnny Carson's job, which he eventually did. Early in his career Leno did commercials for Doritos brand tortilla chips. In the late 1970s, he was the warm-up act for Johnny Mathis, Tom Jones and John Denver. He replaced Johnny Carson as host of The Tonight Show in 1992. He plans to retire from the show in 2009, to be replaced by Conan O'Brien. During an August 1, 2007 interview with CNN journalist Anderson Cooper on The Tonight Show, Jay Leno confirmed that he is dyslexic.[citation needed]

Norton ... The Beginning : The Energette

Norton : Our favorite brand...I'm gonna make a weekly post on all the most famous Norton built from the birth of the brand.
If u have any information or pictures dont hesitate to send it to me.
Thanks to all of you. Frank
Of course a big thanks to Dr Georges Cohen for all his work

The first powered two-wheeler to carry the legendary Norton name is now on display at the National Motorcycle Museum near Birmingham, England. The Norton Energette, a pedal cycle with a small engine attached, was launched late in 1902 by James Lansdowne Norton's Birmingham-based manufacturing company.

James Norton was born in Birmingham in 1869, and at the age of ten he first ventured into an automotive endeavour when he built a model steam engine. Norton was initially apprenticed into the jewellery trade but in 1898 he saw an opportunity in the growing popularity of the bicycle. He set up the Norton Manufacturing Company and operated as a supplier of parts and fittings to the cycle trade. This logically led to building motorcycles when engines were first bolted to cycle frames, and soon the Energette was born.

The Energette's power unit is a 55mm x 60mm, 145cc four-stroke single with an automatic inlet valve and mechanical exhaust valve, manufactured by Clément in France. A belt takes drive directly from the crankshaft to the rear wheel while pedals, chain drive and a free-wheel hub are provided for starting and assistance on hills. An accumulator carried in a wooden box on the seat tube provides ignition power, while the small petrol tank was suspended beneath the top frame rail The whole machine weighed about 70lb. The 20mph machine was advertised as being 'for business, touring or racing'.

Norton also offered a version with a two-speed pulley mechanism driven from the crankshaft by chain and mounted ahead of the bottom bracket. There was a Ladies' Model, and one which was touted as being 'the ideal doctor's bike.'
In 1904 the Journal of Commerce praised Norton's machines; 'since the first day of bicycle manufacture the Norton Company has given special attention to all improvements.'
Norton's workshops built frames for the Clément-Garrard powered bicycle marketed in Britain and the Energette is very similar to that product, but has a longer wheelbase. It was built to order and only three examples are known to survive.
'We have owned the oldest Norton in existence for a long time', said NMM owner
Roy Richards, 'but it was in a very poor state. I am delighted that we have recently had it fully restored by Dr George Cohen, an early Norton specialist, to join our large and ever-growing display.'
Norton concentrated on building its own motorcycles from 1904 and first came to prominence when Rem Fowler won the multi-cylinder class of the 1907 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy race on a Peugeot-Norton V-twin. The marque went on to win another 42 TT races, the most recent in 1992 with a rotary engine.

A French-American bitza story

Here is the "hartere's" story. by Alain Ghetti
The departure idea was to build a racer based on a WL 750 harley-Davidson to go racing with friends on "WR" replicas. The price of the missing parts being a little bit excessive, because I had only the engine, I had to wait for the project, Until day or by going to a friend possessing a "Terrot", i fall on a frame and a (foot) four speed gearbox. I then thought of transplanting my engine in this frame. Came then the first assembly, an extension of the frame of 10 inches and the manufacturing of engine plates. The engine being fixed in the frame and alligned with the gearbox, I missed then the fork.I Found it at good price in "lvm magazine".

I had to adapt two "Terrot" drum brakes coupled there to transform them into double cams as on the "vincent"motorcycle.
Finally the motorcycle was on its wheels.
So i found the gas tank, a 1925 " Génial Lucifer" in Moto Salon and i cut it in two, divided up half for the oil and the other one for the gasoline. The seats are also home-made.
After four months of rather regular work, the "trap" is finally assembled.
There was not more than a last dismantling for a clean and especially functional final assembling.

The logo and the naming " hartere " were found and brush-painted by my friend Patrice in the spirit of the 30s.

During my first ride taken to the "Luc" racetrack, the motorcycle had a big success and intrigued everybody, which was thus this mysterious brand?
The motorcycle behaviour is satisfactory, and the foot gearbox more practical than a tank shifter. Now the "Hartere" represents for me, the pleasure of a successful challenge, which allows me to be on the track with my friends.

Tips mengatasi selang kabel rusak SuZuki satria F-150

Pulse Secondary Air Injection System alias PAIR yang diaplikasi Suzuki Satria F-150 muncul masalah. Masalahnya di putaran bawah. Paling kentara pas mesin disetel langsam. Gejalanya seperti komposisi udara dan bahan bakar enggak ideal.

Jangan panik dulu dan marah. Marah bikin puasa batal lho! Sayang, kan kalau puasa cuma untuk menahan lapar dan haus. Mending baca terus nih tulisan supaya pahala enggak berkurang. “PAIR teknologi mengurangi emisi. Menyeimbangkan kompisi udara di ruang bakar,” beber Josep Antony Tan, 2W Service Instructur Section Head, PT Indomobil Suzuki International (ISI).

kabel.jpg

Sebenarnya sih bukan teknologi PAIR yang jadi biang keladi. Tapi, komponen pendukung yang enggak tahan. Terutama tahan panas mesin. Posisi slang melintang sampai silinder head kelewat panjang . “Kelamaan getas, terus sobek. Jadinya ada udara luar ikut ke ruang bakar,” timpa Hasan Basri, mekanik Hasan Motor di Kelapa Dua Raya, Jakarta Barat.

Biasanya sobek kejadian di bagian silinder head. Tentunya enggak perlu ganti slang. Beli slang yang sejenis pun susah lantaran punya bahan dan ukuran khusus. Cara yang paling gampang sih tinggal digunting ujung yang sobek. Terus dipasang lagi.

The Good,The Bad and The Ugly

Just to remember this was good man ...

The Colt Single Action Army handgun (also known as the Colt Peacemaker, Single Action Army or SAA,[1] Colt .45 and sometimes as The Equalizer) is a single action revolver with a revolving cylinder holding six rounds. It was designed for the US government service revolver trials of 1873 by Colt's Manufacturing Company and adopted as the standard military service revolver.
The .45 Colt cartridge was of center fire design containing charges of up to 40 grains (2.6 g) of fine grained black powder and a 255-grain (16.5 g) blunt round nosed bullet. Relative to period cartridges and most later handgun rounds, it was quite powerful in its full loading.

The Colt Single Action Army handgun replaced the Colt 1860 Army Percussion revolver and remained the primary US Military sidearm until 1892 when it was replaced by an enclosed frame Colt double action revolver. By 1875, 15,000 units chambered for the .45 Colt cartridge had entered service along with an additional 1863 chambered for the .44 Henry rimfire cartridge (Wilson 1985.)
By the mid 1870s, the Army had purchased a significant number of Smith and Wesson revolvers chambering a shorter .45 round. Logistical problems arose because the ammunition was not interchangeable. The Colt revolvers would accept the shorter round but not vice versa. For a time, the Government stopped orders for the longer Colt cartridge and used the Smith and Wesson round exclusively.

Beyond the Valley of Baztan (basque country)

When you cross the French-Spanish border on the Atlantic side, you arrive directly in the valley of Baztan. This place situated in the heart of the Basque country presents for me several interests, the first one, it's the quality of mountain roads much better and better exposed to the sun than in France, we would often imagine on a circuit, the second it's the quality of the numerous typicals restaurants and the third it's the quality of the landscape and architecture.(houses are dated from the 17th century!)

A Little of History

Rollie Free speed record attempt, Bonneville Salt Flats, 1948

Everybody knows this picture but does everybody know the Story ?

The famous picture of Rollie Free stretched out in only a bathing suit on a Vincent is not in fact a Black Shadow but a Black Lightning. The Black Lightning was a custom order from the factory and was some 100 pounds lighter and 25 hp more powerful than the stock Black Shadow. In one of his books, Phil Irving (the designer) said that there were only about 16 of the model produced. The Black Lightning is the fastest Vincent ever produced.

As for the famous "bathing suit bike" picture, it is of Rollie Free, an American, riding on the Bonneville Salt Flats on 13 September 1948. Free was determined to break the land speed record in the "Flying Mile." His first pass hit 148 mph (238 km/h), which broke the record, but Free was determined to break 150. Noticing that his riding leathers had started to come apart at the seams from the force of the wind, Free borrowed a bathing suit, cap, and a pair of tennis shoes and laid down on the bike. With the decreased drag, Free broke 150 mph, topping out at 150.313 mph (241.905 km/h), breaking his record of only a few moments before. That bike, also known as the "John Edgar Lightning" after its sponsor, is currently in the private collection of Herb Harris of Austin, Texas.

The Pachuco Style

Pachucos are Mexican American youths who developed their own subculture during the 1930s and 1940s in the Southwestern United States. They wore distinctive clothes (such as Zoot Suits) and spoke their own dialect (Caló). Due to their double-marginalization stemming from their youth and ethnicity, there has always been a close association and cultural cross-pollination between the Pachuco subculture and the gang subculture. For this reason, many members of the predominant (Anglo) culture assumed that anyone dressed in pachuco was a gang member. A famous pachuco is the bass player and ex-Mothers of Invention Roy Estrada.
