"We'll see if Jerezlittle more easier from that point of view ,although I think I still have to grit my teeth for a while ,"added Rossi .

"From a technical standpoint, Jerez is not the most favorite tracks for the Ducati, but I always liked it and we're definitely going to try and do better than we did until now," he said.

"Since in Qatar, I continue to work in the gym to try and improve my strength and endurance, especially me, but after Spain I'll have time almost a month to recover fully, following the postponement of the Japanese series," added the seven-time world champion these primary classes .

  Kawasaki Concours

Kawasaki Concours photos, images and pictures. The Kawasaki Concours is a 1000 cc or 1400 cc sport touring motorcycle manufactured since 1985 by Kawasaki.

Kawasaki announced a new generation Concours In September 2006, know as the Concours 14 in the USA, or 1400GTR in other markets. Introduced in September 2007, the new bike is based on the ZX-14 platform with features similar to the original Concours – an inline-4 engine, luggage, shaft drive and a full fairing.

In addition to optional ABS, the new bike offers an electrically controlled screen, an innovative pass-key system, and a sophisticated rear suspension-drive system known as Tetralever – not unlike BMW's Paralever and Moto Guzzi's CARC rear suspensions – to handle the conflicting drive and suspension forces (known as shaft effect) typical when shaft-driven motorcycles carry powerful engines

Donate Your Scrap Bike to Charity in the UK

I was contacted by the nice folks at Giveacar in the UK  and asked if I would spread the word that you can now donate your scrap bike and the funds will go to good charities. Here is the blurb from there website:
At Giveacar we’re not just about cars. We arrange the donation of all types of vehicles to charity. From mobile recording studios to campervans, we can turn your unwanted vehicle into much needed funding for your favourite cause. This includes Motorbikes, which despite their small stature can still raise a hefty sum for charity.
scrap motorbike
So if your bike has seen better days or, perhaps, you just don’t have the time to ride it anymore, Giveacar can offer you a simple, free and ethical way of getting rid of it.
Just like with our cars, no matter what state your bike may be in it will be collected free of charge and at a time to suit you. Once you have arranged to donate your bike with us we will pass you details on to our partners in your area, who will organise the collection with you. They will take your bike to their nearest site, dismantle it, and sell on the working parts. A donation will then be made to the charity of your choice based on the price of your old bikes parts.
scrap motorbike
When donating a bike with Giveacar, you are not only helping to support your favourite charity, but you are also helping others to keep their beloved bikes on the road. As well as helping out fellow bike enthusiasts, this also has an environmental benefit. By keeping old bikes on the road you are reducing the demand for new bikes, thus reducing the significant environmental damage caused by their production.
Motorbike donation is a relatively new initiative here at Giveacar, but it is something we are sure will raise a great deal of money for charity while helping us to fulfil our green objectives.
-
So, if you are in the UK and looking to upgrade your motorcycle, or have an unused one lying around please donate it to a worthy cause.

Ride on,
Torch

The Shelleys and Norton history

An interesting email conversation started by Nick Shelley, grandson of Bob (R.T.) Shelley, one time owner of Norton Motors.

Nick: "My grandfather was Bob (R.T.) Shelley and I am still in touch with the O'Donovan family although I think that they actually fell out in the 1920's. One of the things that has puzzled me greatly, given Bob's pre-existing involvement in the trade and take over of Nortons in 1913, is that I have found no photographs of him whatsoever and he never appears in the photographs at the end of successful races."

Roger: "I am in touch with Don O'Donovan's grandson Kevin and Tony's widow as well as his great grandson Simon (Gerald's grandson) and through them I have a reasonable collection of pictures of Nortons at Brooklands.  I have no idea what Bob Shelley looked like to be able to find him in any pictures. Certainly while Pa Norton was alive he was the one that appeared in the race pictures although most of the time the activities at Brooklands were remote from the factory.  All of the development work after the OHV engine was developed took a different route to that of the road racers when Walter Moore took over that aspect. Kevin has put me right on one of the stories about Don's involvement with Norton which most writers believe was the result of his marriage to Bob's sister.  In fact he married Bob's sister in law and that was a couple of years after he started racing Nortons. I don't think that Bob fell out with the O'Donovan family when Nigel Spring edged Don out in 1927, certainly Nancy regards Spring as the cause of the problem - something that was confirmed the other day when I was able to listen to the Woolly Worters recorded by Charles Mortimer in 1975."

Martin: "
Bob (R.T.) Shelley's involvement in Nortons is well covered by Mick Woollett in his excellent history 'Norton' which was published by Osprey in 1992. Basically the Norton Manufacturing Company's assets were sold at auction in 1912 and Shelley bid for the company as he was one of the largest creditors.  Bob Shelley had realised that the new company's success (renamed Norton Motors)  depended on Pa Norton's continuing involvement, so he kept James L 'Pa' Norton on as Managing Director. However, Bob Shelley installed his own man Walter 'Bill' Mansell as Joint Managing Director to keep an eye on financial matters.  Bob Shelley's company made steel stampings and castings for the trade, and apart from general engineering, specialised in tools like spanners and jacks (I have examples of both!) but Norton Motors become fairly autonomous, hence Bob Shelley himself does not seem to figure in TT pictures or the like, as he had little or no day to day involvement in Norton.
Dan 'Wizard' O'Donovan was R.T. Shelley's brother-in-law, and he became involved after the 1913 TT where he had ridden an NSU.  His first Norton he rebuilt from a dismantled wreck he acquired at the works.  This bike, known as 'Old Miracle' became a works test hack at Brooklands where O'Donovan and his team used to run in engines before the belt drive bikes were sold, and is now in the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. O'Donovan stayed at Nortons until he took an offer to develop race bikes for Raleigh in I think 1927.  In the meantime when 'Pa' Norton died in April 1925, the company apparently treated Pa's widow Sarah and the family badly.  Lansdowne, Pa's eldest son, was sacked from the drawing office soon afterwards, and he subsequently became an aircraft designer at the Bristol Aircraft Co.  Bob Shelley passed away in 1927 from cancer, but before he died, he had reconstituted the Norton Motors financial structure to create Norton Motors (1926) Ltd, which helped the company survive the coming depression rather better than many motorcycle companies who folded"

Nick: "
I was in touch with Kevin (O'Donovan's grandson) for a few years until he became too ill to respond any longer. When we first corresponded, he let me know with something of a wry grin that the Shelleys and O'Donovans weren't really on speaking terms but we both agreed that by three generations we should perhaps move on!  I don't think that I ever understood the full details of this fall out but my memory of the discussion is that it might have been over the ownership of a patent.
You are right of course in saying that Don married Bob's sister-in-law Hilda in 1915; I must say that she often looked rather severe in her pictures but it might have been something to do with the hats and the hair style of those times.
During the period 1913 to 1927 I have only two pictures of Bob Shelley - one at Don and Hilda's wedding and the other a portrait picture taken I am guessing some time in the late 1920's.  I am attaching an extract from the wedding showing both Bob and his step-sister Fredericka (the only know picture of her) and also the portrait. In the wedding extract you will see, from left to right, Charles Frederick Hulley (Hilda's father), her sister and Bob's wife Edie, Bob Shelley, sister Lillah Hulley and Fredericka Shelley aged around 17, photograph taken 19th Oct 1915.
I do remember the allusion to
Pa Norton's family being treated badly, presumably this was by Bob
Shelley. Just at this moment I can't remember if I ever knew the full
details of what happened or not. My understanding is that Bob appointed
his three children Geoff, Ken and Eric within the company for a while
(they would have been in their late teens I guess) but they were chucked
out when Bob died"

Yamaha Raptor 700R SE, 2009

Yamaha Raptor 700R SE, 2009

Designed to dominate any terrain, the sharp-handling Yamaha Raptor 700R SE draws jaw dropping power from a 686cc liquid cooled engine. Electronic fuel injection means fantastic throttle response and performance, while a light hybrid chassis with aluminum rear section helps make it the lightest thing in its class.
The Raptor 700 R SE adds a few special touches to the already class leading Raptor. A custom Black and Red colour scheme and super high performance piggy-back clicker shocks with high and low speed compression damping adjustment.

The features and benefits:
= The 686cc Fuel Injected SOHC 4-valve single is a high torque monster that's so smooth, you may find yourself using fewer gears to go from corner to corner. With a focus on low to mid-range power, and incredible throttle response, you don't have to worry about always keeping the engine in the power band, Instead… just stab the throttle and feel it pull.
= The most envied component of the Raptor 700R is the Yamaha Fuel Injection system (YFI). The YFI improves throttle response throughout the powerband, helping the rider take advantage of that improved low- to mid-range power.
=YFI offers unmatched performance at high elevation as the system is able to detect and compensate for changes in altitude. The more precise fuel delivery offered by the YFI means clean power delivery, better throttle response and improved fuel economy under a multitude of riding situations.
= YFI means no choke and easier cold starting.
= The forged piston for reduced weight and added durability, combined with an aluminum cylinder body with composite coating offers reduced weight, increased cooling ability and additional wear resistance.
= The roller rocker arms reduce friction in the valve train, which allows the engine to rev more freely leading to better overall performance and improved throttle response.
= The beloved electric start feature continues to make firing the liquid-cooled, four-valve SOHC powerplant to life a snap.
= Delivering all that power is the five-speed manual transmission (with reverse, of course). The transmission's gearing ratio has been revised, optimizing the additional power and making full use of the powerband under a variety of riding situations.
= The direct-type ratchet shifter gives a more direct, improved shift feeling - similar to that found on the Raptor's two-wheeled racing cousins, the YZ line.
= Continuing along the backside of the 700R, we find the Yamaha Cam Adjust drive chain adjuster. This eccentric shaft-type design makes for quick and easy chain adjustments.
= The frame of the Raptor 700R will also turn heads thanks to its hybrid design. High-tensile steel marries with a cast aluminum frame up front, while the rear frame is die-cast aluminum. This design ensures the Raptor stays compact and light weight while reducing vibration and ensuring optimum rigidity.
= Adding even more performance the SE Raptor sports piggy-back clicker shocks to the front and back with high and low speed compression adjustment.
= The double-wishbone front A-arms feature reduced weight and increased strength thanks to the use of aluminum, square-shaped tubes of the upper arms and steel lower arms.
= The front shock absorber incorporates a high pressure gas (HPG) oil damper, adding to the optimum suspension set up.
= The one piece aluminum die-cast rear swing arm offers superior rear wheel traction, reduced weight and added comfort for the rider.
= The popular toggle link-type parking brake lever returns for 2008 with the auto-adjust feature that keeps maintenance to a minimum.
= The power of the Raptor 700R is put to the ground via a set of front and rear Dunlop radials. This design offers improved cornering and added comfort to riders under a bevy of conditions.
= The tires are mounted on aluminum rims, which include a rolled edge for added durability.
= The Raptor incorporates a YFZ-style headlight, integrated LED tail light and YZ-style seat, which helps to improve rider mobility and comfort under all riding conditions.
= Attracting attention out back is the exhaust system - a stainless two-into-one pipe and oval shape silencer, which has been turned sideways, adding a unique flair to the Raptor's ultra-aggressive look.
=Newly designed Liquid Crystal Display provides improved functionality including a speedometer, odometer with dual trips and even a clock.
= Newly designed throttle lever designed to reduce hand and thumb fatigue.
