When racing was a way to live

You could be forgiven for thinking that motor racing began in 1950. Most books and even online resources begin their coverage with this season and specifically with the British GP on 13 May, the first round of the newly inaugurated World Championship.
Formula 1 itself was entering its fourth season, having began as Formula A after WWII. Races were open to 4.5-litre normally aspirated cars or 1.5-litre supercharged. OldRacingCars.com will cover these earlier seasons as we expand our coverage but have started - just as you'd expect us to - with 1950.
